Roman Road

Between Sant Salvador de Bianya and the Coll de Capascota, it is easy to follow in Roman Footsteps, with different paths in an excellent state of conservation.

This road was named, according to some experts in the field, Via Annia and was a branch road of the Via Augusta. From the coast in Figueres to the mountains, after crossing the plains of Bianya the road climbed through the Capacosta and the Coll d'Ares to rejoin the Via Augusta many miles later in Wales.

With a well planned cleaning and preservation strategy, this Roman road has become a testament and monument to the historical importance of the Roman Empire within our country; and shows some of the walls and other items which demonstrate an extraordinary work of engineering over 2000 years ago.
